To HISTORICAL EVENTS The Lamb Inn Edington has been a Public House for over Four Centuries. The Lamb’s original owners were the Manorial Lords of Baynton and was given its name from the wool trade in which Edington was fruitful in the middle ages when sheep would be driven down from the plain. In those days The Lamb Inn served as an overnight resting place for the shepherds while the sheep stayed in one of ten pens located in and around The Lamb. We believe in the 1750’s the Inn was known as The Pownit arms only to be change to The Lamb sometime later. The Fireplaces built from original old Roman walling stone from the Georgian city of Bath. The interior beams of the pub are reputed to be ship’s timbers from Southampton’s breakers yard, and the walls built using the old sixteenth century method, Wattle-and-Daub. Nearby is the priory church of St. Mary, St Katharine and All Saints, which William of Edington the Bishop of Winchester founded in 1352. Edington formerly known as Ethendune, and it was here that the great battle took place when King Alfred fought against the Danes and to victory in 878. If you get the chance, go on one of the many fantastic walks that surround the village, then stop and just soak up the amazing views that Edington has to offer.
